Description
Fonio is the oldest authentic African grain. It grows on poor sandy soil with little water on the edge of the Sahara. The growth of the grain is not only practical for consumption, but also counteracts desertification and erosion. Women’s cooperatives clean and process the fonio, they cook and dry it and sell it on the market or the surplus for export. Due to the high nutritional values with essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins, it is a complete basic food. Bring water to the boil, then add fonio or add boiling water to the fonio. For 50g fonio, you need 130ml of water. Boil for 2-3 minutes until the water is absorbed. Cover and leave for 10 minutes and fluff with a fork before serving. Can replace any other grain or rice. As porridge for breakfast. As couscous, in bread, pastries and burgers. As an oven dish and salads or in soup.
